Repose

Repose is a bronze avian sculpture by Richard Burke, mounted on a natural stone base. Standing tall and slender, the form conveys a sense of quiet watchfulness—an inward pause rather than outward motion.

Burke’s handling of the surface brings the piece to life through layered patinas of deep green, bronze, and subtle earthen tones. The texture shifts between smooth and tactile, suggesting both feather and form without strict realism. The bird’s posture—upright, composed, and slightly withdrawn—evokes a moment of rest that feels both grounded and aware.

The natural stone base anchors the sculpture, creating a balance between refinement and raw material. Each stone is individually selected by the artist, making the pairing of sculpture and base entirely unique.

Both contemplative and quietly expressive, Repose reflects Burke’s ability to distill the essence of avian life into form, gesture, and presence.
