Calm

Calm is a short eared bronze owl sculpture by Richard Burke, defined by its gently enclosed posture and softened, downward gaze. The form feels settled and self-contained, with wings drawn in close, creating a sense of stillness and quiet protection.

Burke’s sculptural approach favors suggestion over detail. Feather patterns emerge through subtle shifts in plane and texture rather than precise delineation, allowing light to move naturally across the surface. The patina—deep bronze layered with soft greens—adds depth and a sense of time, enhancing the piece’s tranquil presence.

Rather than commanding attention, Calm invites a slower, more contemplative experience. It is a piece that holds space quietly, offering a sense of rest and balance within its form.
