Rack Em Up

Rack ’Em Up by Larry Holt is an original stone and forged metal sculpture that brings humor and playful tension to the art of balance. A precarious tower of natural stones rises from the base, interrupted by a bright 5 ball and topped by an 8 ball, while one of Holt’s elongated forged-metal figures navigates a slender ladder alongside the improbable construction.

The familiar pool balls add an unexpected pop of color and personality among the earthy textures of stone and dark forged steel. Their perfect spheres contrast with the irregular shapes of the natural stones, while the ladder and figure give the composition a sense of movement, scale, and story.

Whimsical yet carefully composed, Rack ’Em Up reflects Holt’s ability to transform stone and metal into a visual puzzle. Balance, perseverance, chance, and a bit of mischief all come into play, leaving the viewer to decide exactly what this determined figure is trying to accomplish.
