Gee Bee

Celebrate the golden age of aviation with Gee Bee, an original painting by California artist Ray Gress. Featuring the instantly recognizable red-and-white Gee Bee racing aircraft flying above gently rolling green hills beneath a brilliant blue sky, this whimsical composition captures both the excitement of flight and the simplicity of folk art.

Gress's clean lines, bold colors, and uncluttered composition draw the viewer's attention to the legendary aircraft while the stylized landscape creates a peaceful sense of place. The contrast between the vibrant airplane and the serene countryside gives the painting a timeless charm that appeals to both aviation enthusiasts and collectors of Americana.

Accompanied by the artist's original Certificate of Origin, this painting represents the distinctive style that made Ray Gress a respected California artist. Whether displayed in a home, office, aviation collection, or gallery, Gee Bee brings together nostalgia, craftsmanship, and the enduring romance of early flight.

  • Artist Biography

Ray Gress is an American artist known for his colorful landscapes, wildlife, Americana, and aviation-inspired paintings. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, he later settled in Ventura County, California, where he maintained studios in Mandalay Bay and Morro Bay.

Although largely self-taught, Gress came from an artistic family. His grandfather, Lee Wait, was a painter and instructor at Universal Studios, while his mother, Bea Gress, was a respected California artist. Developing his own distinctive style, Ray Gress became known for paintings that balance realism with a charming, approachable simplicity.

A past president of the Coastal Arts Committee and founder of Art Colony West, Gress received numerous awards throughout California and exhibited widely. His work has found homes in private collections that appreciate his vibrant depictions of landscapes, wildlife, Americana, and classic subjects that evoke optimism and nostalgia.
