Afternoon Newport Harbor, a Pacific Northwest Scene, original oil on linen by Dale Landrum.

Afternoon Newport Harbor

Afternoon Newport Harbor captures the layered rhythm of working boats gathered within a quiet marina, where masts, rigging, and reflected light create a dense yet atmospheric composition. A striking red sail introduces warmth and movement against the cool grays, blues, and softened industrial forms of the harbor.

Through Landrum’s contemporary impressionist approach, the painting balances structure with spontaneity, allowing reflections, shifting weather, and compressed space to evoke the feeling of standing within the harbor itself. The work reflects his continued exploration of maritime environments shaped by light, labor, and coastal life.
