Louis Andrew Schaffer
Hand-Blown Glass by Louis Andrew Schaffer
Contemporary blown glass forms that balance technical precision with fluid movement, each piece shaped through traditional offhand techniques into refined, sculptural expressions of color, light, and form.
About the Artist
Louis Andrew Schaffer is a contemporary glass artist known for his mastery of offhand glassblowing techniques. His work reflects a deep respect for traditional Venetian methods while embracing a distinctly modern sensibility. Pieces such as his amphora forms and reticello vessels demonstrate both technical precision and an intuitive understanding of form, movement, and color.

Influenced by renowned glass artists including Lino Tagliapietra and Dante Marioni, Schaffer developed a practice rooted in discipline, craftsmanship, and a commitment to the demanding nature of molten glass. Each piece is created through a process that requires both control and responsiveness, resulting in forms that feel both intentional and alive.

His work is held in private collections, with a limited number of pieces available through the Angi D Wildt Gallery.
Artist Statement
"I was drawn to off-hand glassblowing after seeing a demonstration. The sheer difficulty of creating these beautiful, colorful forms from a molten medium truly intrigued me."
