Chris Villiers

Historic Processes. Contemporary Vision.

Chris Villiers creates limited-edition fine art photographs using historic photographic processes, vintage cameras, and contemporary storytelling to reveal fresh perspectives on the Pacific Northwest.

Chris Villiers creates fine art photography that blends storytelling with craftsmanship. Originally trained as a writer, he approaches each image as a narrative, exploring how different perspectives can reveal deeper truths. Inspired by early twentieth-century authors who told stories through conflicting points of view, Villiers uses photography to invite viewers into moments that are both familiar and open to interpretation.

Working from Oregon's North Coast, Villiers combines digital photography, film, and historic photographic processes to create distinctive, limited-edition works. Depending on the story he wants to tell, he may use contemporary equipment or vintage cameras, including a circa 1936 Zeiss Ikon medium-format camera. Some of his photographs are produced as handcrafted platinum/palladium prints on handmade Italian paper, a process prized for its exceptional tonal range, permanence, and subtle beauty. Because each print is individually coated and developed by hand, no two are exactly alike.

Villiers' photographs capture the quiet character of the Pacific Northwest—from windswept trees and historic landmarks to the changing light along the Columbia River and Oregon Coast. Rather than documenting a place, his images evoke its atmosphere, inviting viewers to slow down and experience the landscape in a more contemplative way.

His work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States and featured in Black & White magazine. Every photograph is thoughtfully crafted in small, limited editions, making each piece a lasting addition for collectors who appreciate both artistic vision and traditional photographic craftsmanship.
